About
The Latino Youth Leadership Council organizes and mobilizes to assess, develop, and implement opportunities and alternatives for Latino students in DCPS and other educational systems in the District of Columbia.
Members of the council are actively involved in the betterment of the community through various organizing and mobilizing activities such as:
- Organizing Latino Youth Conferences and Summits.
- Participating in community awareness activities including youth panels and speeches on various topics related to immigrant student life in DCPS and other educational systems.
- Having leadership roles in various DC non-profit organizations.
- Community service.
- Coordinating monthly meetings for youth capacity-building and organizing special community events.
- Creating a positive environment where Latino students feel they have power and ownership of advocacy opportunities.
- Creating and publishing books, blogs, and podcasts to empower and unleash youth voices and hence harness youth power.
- Through profits from their book Voces Sin Fronteras: Our Stories, Our Truth, youth hope to initiate and maintain a scholarship fund to help youth that are not eligible to traditional support systems to get into and succeed in college/university.
